Beef Jerky - The Perfect Snack When You’re On The Moooove

There’s a reason it’s often referred to as “pocket meat”. Beef jerky is the perfect on-the-go high-protein snack. Keep some in your truck, your briefcase, or your back pocket and never go hungry again.

Is beef jerky healthy?

It tastes so good it’s probably got you wondering, “what’s the catch?”, right? Here’s the deal: beef jerky is generally considered a healthy snack, but as with all good things, should be consumed in moderation. Beef jerky is made from lean cuts of beef, so it’s chock full of protein yet low in fat and carbs. For you health-conscious or keto folk, that’s a win-win-win! But beware: because beef jerky is seasoned and cured, some types are pretty high in sodium. If you’re on a low-sodium diet, you should probably steer clear. But for everyone else, beef jerky is a perfectly healthy option when you’re on-the-go and craving a little meat snack.

Why is jerky so expensive?

If your jerky habit has you picking up extra shifts, we feel for you. It’s all for good reason, though. Before your little piece of jerky went through the jerky-fication process, it was a big ol’ hunk of lean beef. In case you haven’t heard, beef is expensive, y’all. Then we dehydrated and cured it (and threw in some mouth-watering flavors in the process). You might as well call the dehydrator a shrink ray because with all the moisture gone, the jerky we’re left with is less than half the size of the piece of beef we started with. So jerky is so expensive because you get what you pay for - 20 buck’s worth of jerky is still 20 buck’s worth of beef, just extra tasty and portable.
